Ludduì, the scenic village of Budoni

Where Gallura ends and knocks on the doors of the Barony

Sometimes a lookout isn't a dot on the map.

It's an entire country.

Ludduì is a small village in the hills of Budoni, one of those places where the landscape changes completely as soon as you climb a little higher. The sea remains in front, but all around you appear pastures, Mediterranean scrub, scattered houses, and the other small villages of the area.

From up here, Budoni is no longer just the coast.

Becomes a large landscape that unites sea and countryside, with the gaze that on clear days runs northwards to the silhouettes of Tavolara and Molara.

A country that becomes a lookout

You don't necessarily have to look for a panoramic terrace or a sign that says “you have arrived”.

The experience is just that of cross Ludduì and climb towards the highest part of the village.

Ludduì among the most beautiful panoramic points of the area, a small village to cross to reach the summit, just under 300 meters above sea level, from where you can observe a large stretch of the north-eastern coast.

And the view begins as you climb.

A bend opens up a view. A road opens up another. Then the landscape opens up and the sea suddenly takes center stage again.

Between sea and countryside

This is the peculiarity of Ludduì.

Looking toward the coast, blue dominates. Lowering your gaze slightly, rural Sardinia reappears: pastures, vegetation, houses, small settlements and traces of the Gallura agricultural landscape.

It's a different Sardinia than the one depicted in beach photographs, yet the sea is still there.

Almost to remember how, in Gallura, the coast and the hinterland are two parts of the same landscape.

A village born from the stazzi

Ludduì also tells an older story.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, a few families lived there, all linked together, whose life revolved around the pens, the traditional agricultural and pastoral units of Gallura. They were both homes and workplaces: around them were sheepfolds, stables, vegetable gardens, vineyards, and fields.

Over time, some of these family units expanded, and the ancient farmhouses contributed to the formation of the small villages that still characterize this part of the territory today.

And then the panorama takes on a different meaning.

It's not just something to photograph.

It is the landscape in which generations have lived and worked.

Stop and look

Ludduì is one of those places that doesn't necessarily require a program.

You can arrive, slowly cross the village, climb, find your own view and stop.

On clear days the view allows you to follow the coast and stretch your gaze as far as Tavolara and Molara.

When to go

All year round.

Spring and autumn are probably the most beautiful times to combine the scenery with the colors and scents of the countryside. Winter can offer clear days and extraordinary visibility, while in summer it's best to avoid the hottest hours of the day.

The late afternoon It is particularly evocative for the softer light on the landscape, but Ludduì is also worth seeing on clear winter mornings, when the horizon seems to get closer.
