The castle of Balajana and the jesgia of Santu Linaldu

with a splendid panoramic view

This excursion visits Balajana Castle in Luogosanto, one of the most fascinating places in all of Gallura, especially for its landscape. The structure is located on Mount San Leonardo, 299 meters above sea level, and was likely built in the 11th century by Pisan craftsmen.

The fortress was built entirely of squared granite blocks, whose interlocking arrangement did not require the use of mortar and is characterised by the presence of a trapezoidal tower divided into two rooms, with access on the eastern side.

The castle is one of those historic buildings where human intervention blends seamlessly with the natural setting, as if the building had existed for much longer, despite the squared stones clearly indicating its age.

It's a historic building that blends beautifully with the surrounding landscape: the granite of the stones is almost one with the granite of the rocks on which the castle rests. From there, you can admire the stunning panorama of Luogosanto and Arzachena, one of the most beautiful in all of Gallura, so much so that on clear days you can even see La Maddalena.

Along the way you can stop at various refreshment points.
